stop-motion animation with real product is a major physical workout.
Aardman I am not.
THIS IS HOW I FEEL EVERY DAY AND 200% MORE NOW
I did 3 takes of what amounts to a 3-second video today (90 frames each), which adds up to 270+ lunges, moving boxes and parts, run up to the stuff before the light changes, make tiny tweaks that make sense, run backward to the camera (MAKE GODDAMN SURE YOUR SHOE/SHADOW/6-YEAR-OLD ISN’T IN THE CORNER OF THE FRAME), snap the pic, lunge forward, make tiny moves of a bunch of parts, repeat until sweat-soaked and your now-bored-of-this 6-year old isn’t pressing the shutter button anymore and keeps asking when she can have sandwich the second and we can go outside and do our reading on the hammock, chase and play tag, draw on the markerboards, or make another lunch or snack (GREAT TIME FOR ANOTHER GROWTH SPURT, KID).
Feels more like this.
I’m relatively pleased that in the first 2 days of home/distance/remote schooling, things have been fixed. Replaced a garbage disposal yesterday.
Easy install, my ass. You want to milk 20 bucks for a power cable? Like, you think you’re Apple? I have tin snips and vice grips. Fuck your one-way cords. The worst part is that their instruction manual still says “unscrew the power cord.”
And after that, I washed both the family cars. Daughter keeps saying how shiny they look. Family walks outside. Got the school’s apps and logins installed and figured out this morning.
New realities. Thankfully, the only major change for us is that the kiddo’s not going to school, and I don’t have to wake her up, get her ready, pack her lunch, and take her there. We just have to juggle who’s with whom for how long. Yesterday I made a science class with her, today it was video production, drawing, reading, and writing.
Everyone’s doing their best to figure out how to navigate the uncertainty and support the people around them.
Today was the perfect spring day in c
entral TX, finally stopped raining for a couple days. Everything’s so stunningly green.
It’s the best we can hope for.

Renders are pretty easy with the right toolbox, CAD animation is great if you have more than 24 hours from start to finish, but, man. The stop-motion unboxing process, done with photos from physical samples; it was the kind of workout that people pay money for.

What do you use? I’ m using VRED and after effects ... its not quick. I’ll set up a motion and let VRED make a 100 images over night and then make it an gif or mp4 the next day.

Solidworks for CAD, exported to Keyshot for rendering/animation. I’ve done Aftereffects and/or Premiere for things like vignettes/transitions/sound.
